AdventureKids Sunday AM Lesson Plan Checklist

This is the checklist to take an existing Lesson Plan for AdventureKids Sunday morning and update it for the current lesson.

Step 1: Duplicate a previous lesson plan pages document and change the name

Name Format: MMM WW Lesson Plan.pages (Example: OCT W1 Lesson Plan)

Step 2: Open the document and Update the following items:

Note: Use the Find & Replace Option (cmd F) to update the following:

Step 3: Swap out the Ice Breaker & Discussion Questions

The Ice Breaker and Discussion Questions will be provided from Pastor Steve

Update these for all six groups:

  • Leapers
  • Hikers
  • Explorers
  • Voyagers
  • Pathfinders
  • Surveyors
Step 4: Update the Craft Page

On the craft page, delete the old image of the craft and drag the new image (or PDF) onto this page. Then update the instructions as necessary.

You can find the Craft PDF on Shadrach > AdventureKids Lessons. Look in the appropriate folder for the week you are on.

  1. Delete the old craft page image (pdf) from the lesson plan
  2. Drag the new PDF onto the blank page
  3. Select the image/PDF and in the format panel choose “Stay on Page” for Object Placement and choose “None” for Text Wrap.
  4. Duplicate the Craft Page and add it to the other groups

Typically we do the craft for the following groups:

  • Leapers
  • Hikers
  • Explorers
  • Surveyors

Tip: I typically do this for the Leapers Craft Page first, and then Duplicate (command ‘D’) this page and move it to each class section that is doing the craft.

Step 5: Update the Coloring Page

On the coloring page, delete the old PDF/image and deaf the new image (or PDF) onto this page. Then update the instructions as necessary.

You can find the Coloring Page PDF on Shadrach > AdventureKids Lessons. Look in the appropriate folder for the week you are on.

  1. Delete the old coloring page image (pdf) from the lesson plan
  2. Drag the new PDF onto the blank page
  3. Select the image/PDF and in the format panel choose “Stay on Page” for Object Placement and choose “None” for Text Wrap.
  4. Duplicate the Coloring Page and add it to the other groups

Typically we do the coloring page for the following groups:

  • Leapers
  • Hikers
  • Explorers
  • Voyagers (if it is a Hidden Image/more advanced coloring page)
  • Pathfinders (if it is a Hidden Image/more advanced coloring page)
  • Surveyors

Tip: I typically do this for the Leapers Coloring Page first, and then Duplicate (command ‘D’) this page and move it to each class section that is doing the craft.

Step 6: Update the Screen Game

This is a bit more complicated.

Part A: Getting the Game on Plex

  1. Use the iOS app named “Grow Games”
  2. Click the Screen Games tab
  3. Scroll through and find a game kids will like (that has not been used before)
    1. If possible find one that can tie into the lesson
  4. Click Download these slides
    1. You will need to login to Dropbox on your phone to save these to drop box
  5. Go into Drop Box on your computer and find the folder of the game
    1. Remove any PSD files from the folder
  6. Right-click on the folder and choose Smart Sync > Local
  7. Copy the Folder from DropBox to Shadrach > Plex > Media > Games
  8. Open Plex on your web browser (at church) – http://192.168.1.93:32400/web/index.html
  9. Click on the Games tab
  10. Hover over the Games tab and click on the three vertical dots icon. Choose Scan Library Files
  11. After the new game appears, hover over the game and click the pencil icon in the bottom left corner of the image.
  12. Click on the Poster Tab
  13. Drag the Title image (usually the first image) from the folder that you copied to Shadrach – into the drag and drop area. Click save changes.

Part B: Creating The Instructions in the Lesson Plan

  1. View the instructions in the Grow Games iOS app and either:
    1. Type out the instructions in the lesson plan (or)
    2. Select and Copy the instructions in the app on your phone and if you have a linked laptop, paste them in the lesson plan directly (See Steve for further explanation) (or)
    3. Copy and Paste the instructions into an email or text that you can send yourself
  2. Update the Prep Section to show the name of the game they need to open as it appears on Plex.
  3. Feel free to modify the rules to fit our classes. I typically like to have all students be allow to respond (by raising their hands for whatever answer they think is right). Points don’t matter! These are all just for fun.
  4. Bible Tie-In. Write up a Bible Tie-In that the teachers can share that ties this into the lesson.

Part C: Replace the Image on the Lesson Plan

  1. Delete the image of the old Screen Game in the lesson plan.
  2. Drag the title image onto the lesson page. Be sure you are not dragging it into a text box. Just drag it onto some white space on the page.
  3. Resize and move the image as necessary.
  4. Select the image and in the format pane choose Arrange. Then choose “Stay on Page” for Object Placement and choose “None” in the Text Wrap dropdown.

Part D: Duplicate and add to other class sections

Typically we do the Screen Game page for the following groups:

    • Voyagers (if it is a Hidden Image/more advanced coloring page)
    • Pathfinders (if it is a Hidden Image/more advanced coloring page)
    • Surveyors
Step 7: Review the Lesson Plan Order for each Classroom (on their first page)

Review the list of activities and time guides and update as necessary for each group.

Pay Special Note To:

  • Screen Game Name (works well to do the Find/Replace here)
  • Whether or not they have a coloring page and/or craft

Update The Hang Man Idea:

  • Come up with a funny shorter phrase that goes along with the Bible Story or Bible Point
  • Works well to do a Find/Replace for the Hang Man Idea
  • Tip: Sometimes I search google for Jokes + Bible Story Name (For example: Burning Bush Jokes)
Step 8: Save each class as a Separate PDF
  1. Scroll up to the very to page
  2. Choose File > Print
  3. Change the page range to include the pages for the Leapers class (probably 1 to 4)
  4. Click the PDF dropdown arrow and choose “Save as PDF”
  5. In the Save As: field, name the file “Leapers.pdf” (don’t forget to include the .pdf)
  6. Repeat for each classroom
    1. Scroll down to the next section so you can see the pages needed for the page range

Step 9: Distribute the Lesson Plans
  1. Copy the Lesson Plans to Shadrach > AdventureKids > AdventureKids Lessons > the appropriate week folder
  2. Upload the Lesson Plans to Planning Center Services for the appropriate lesson.
